The Power of Social Networking

Keep Calm and Twitter wiselyWell, what to say about the extraordinary scenes that we have seen on our streets. It made me think about the power of social networking and that as individuals we can use these tools for either positive or negative outcomes.

Firstly, the rioters, some of whom used Blackberry Messenger and other social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc) to organise and record these events. Secondly, those who choose to use the very same social media so that they can organise groups to clear their streets of the damage, assist their communities and demonstrate solidarity in the face of adversity. Lastly, those who have used the power of technology to capture CCTV images of the perpetrators of these crimes and then disseminate for all to see and identify on our computer and TV screens nationwide.

As with life we have a choice to make, however with choice comes consequence. My business is about brand and, in order for people to know your brand and what you are about, you need a following – so which route will you decide on?
